Statement Converter vs MoneyThumb

For text PDFs and bank CSVs, Statement Converter does the same conversion for a fifth of the price and never uploads the statement. For scanned statements you need OCR, which MoneyThumb has and we do not.

What MoneyThumb is

MoneyThumb sells bank-statement converters: a cloud service (MoneyThumb Online) that turns statement PDFs into QuickBooks and spreadsheet files, and desktop licences (2qbo Convert Pro, 2qfx) for Windows and Mac.

What MoneyThumb costs

MoneyThumb Online for QuickBooks starts at $24.95 a month for 5 conversions; the desktop 2qbo / 2qfx Convert Pro products are lifetime licences for Windows and Mac; OCR (PDF+) is bundled for a year in the Pro+ edition, which is currently Windows-only, or sold as an add-on. Choose MoneyThumb when

  • Your statements are scans or photos — you need OCR.
  • You convert hundreds of statements a month for an underwriting or lending workflow and want their API.
  • You need QuickBooks Desktop edge cases and specific bank quirks that a specialist vendor has spent years on.

Choose Statement Converter when

  • You do not want a bank statement leaving your machine, ever.
  • You convert a handful of statements a month and $24.95 for five is the wrong shape.
  • You want one link that works on any computer, with nothing to install.
  • You want to see every row on screen before any file is written.

Where each fits

A bookkeeper closing the month

Drop the client's three PDF statements, check the table, download one .qbo and import it into QuickBooks. The client's statements never touch a third-party server, which is what their engagement letter promised.

A sole trader doing their own books

One statement a month, CSV out, free. No account, nothing to cancel.

Switching accounting software

Twelve months of statements merged into one Excel file, oldest first, amounts as numbers.

Questions

Does Statement Converter read the same banks MoneyThumb does?
It reads any CSV a bank exports and any PDF with a text layer, by reading the columns rather than a per-bank template. Banks that print a statement as an image (a scan) are the ones it cannot read; MoneyThumb's OCR add-on covers those.
Is the .qbo file the same thing MoneyThumb produces?
It is the same QuickBooks Web Connect format QuickBooks imports through Banking → Upload transactions. The transaction IDs are generated so re-importing the same file does not duplicate rows.
Why is it so much cheaper?
Because the work happens in your browser. There is no server reading statements, so there is no per-conversion cost to pass on.
Can I try it before subscribing?
Yes — one statement at a time, CSV out, free, with the whole table shown on screen. The subscription adds Excel, .qbo and OFX and any number of files together.
